PeopleSoft 9.2 HCMS – Human Capital “Magnificent” System

I actually do think that the new PS 9.2 HMS is magnificent. While it’s properly considered a sub-release from 9.1, it really has a lot packed into it.  I debated providing a laundry list of all the new features, but you can read the Release Notes to see the comprehensive list or look at a summary via the Cumulative Feature Overview tool from Oracle.[i] In total there are over a thousand enhancements, but today I’ll discuss the three that I think are most valuable. More than one reader has asked, “Why upgrade to PS 9.2 now? Why not wait—or even skip it and just deploy a future release?” Inherent in these strategies is the assumption that the cost of the upgrade is greater than the benefits its deployment would produce. Modify PeopleSoft 9.2? What to bring forward?

Now that PeopleSoft 9.2 is in GA – general release – you can review your current list of modifications and compare it to the list of new features/functions in your PeopleSoft applications. The exercise of deciding what to migrate to PS 9.2 is key to keeping your system both easy to use and cost effective.  As you know, there is the initial cost to develop something new, and then there are additional costs to apply patches and fixes around your changes (~30%-60% of the original cost each year).
