If you’ve made the move to Fluid, the rest of this blog will just make you smug. For those who haven’t moved to the latest PeopleSoft user interface, let me provide you with both practical reasons and financial reasons on why you’d want to update your PeopleSoft to a modern user interface (UI).
Recently, I met with Marc Weintraub from Oracle to discuss some ideas that may not be crystal clear to PeopleSoft customers or the public at large. At the top of our list was, “What did Oracle mean when it said, ‘Oracle is fully committed to supporting and investing in its PeopleSoft solutions indefinitely’?”1 That’s a long time—“indefinitely.” Read more
There is some uncertainty about what it means to move PeopleSoft “to the Cloud.” The simplest description is running your PeopleSoft (PSoft) system outside of your facility—in someone else’s facility. There are many options available. There are options regarding what you are responsible for and what the vendor is responsible for (e.g., patching SW, security, where/what country you want the facility, among many others). I see PeopleSoft in the Cloud as really how ERP services were provided in the past and how ERP services can be provided now—moving from the physical data center you grew up with to a more effective environment in the Cloud. PUM: for the uninitiated, this acronym might not create a great deal of excitement, but wait until you use it. PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) has been described as “the tool that breaks up a large upgrade into small, easy-to-apply updates.” One user describes PUM as “a search tool to find applicable patches.” Another says, “PUM simplifies maintenance”—and it really does!
In past blogs, I’ve presented evidence for why PeopleSoft 9.2 and PeopleTools 8.53 can make everyday tasks easier and faster. There is one caveat: will your employees embrace the new system? Including OCM in your project plan will dramatically increase the odds they will and the speed at which they do.
Let me continue with some basic definitions and context. Read more
While PeopleTools 8.53 isn’t technically a new function of PeopleSoft 9.2, these new PeopleTools enable many of the new functions within all the PeopleSoft 9.2 applications and provide valuable enhancements to the PeopleSoft ERP Suite – more function, less maintenance – exactly what we’ve come to expect from a proven ERP. An ERP that has essentially reinvented itself several times – from a central system, to client server, to the internet and now mobile. Here’s a review of some very positive changes enabled by PeopleTools 8.53. Read more
In the last blog, I said the PS 9.2 HMS is “magnificent.” I also have to say that the PS 9.2 Financial Management System is “marvelous.” I’ll admit to having some geeky-ness about me—I enjoy reading about, watching the videos, and testing the new PS 9.2 system (the Release Notes and the Cumulative Feature Overview tool from Oracle[i] link is in the endnotes). There are many, many really powerful enhancements in Grants and GL, but Read more
I actually do think that the new PS 9.2 HMS is magnificent. While it’s properly considered a sub-release from 9.1, it really has a lot packed into it. I debated providing a laundry list of all the new features, but you can read the Release Notes to see the comprehensive list or look at a summary via the Cumulative Feature Overview tool from Oracle.[i] In total there are over a thousand enhancements, but today I’ll discuss the three that I think are most valuable. That should make you pause and re-consider the value of PS 9.2 HMS – that is if you haven’t started your project already. Read more
OK, bad pun; but what are the costs and benefits associated with a hosted PS 9.2 solution? A great time to explore whether or not this makes sense for your organization is during your overall PS upgrade evaluation. By outsourcing the management and maintenance of their PeopleSoft systems, many clients can realize financial and operational advantages and gain advanced functionality that might not otherwise be affordable.

This is one of my favorite areas of consulting, Sierra-Cedar’s proprietary HCM Benchmarking and Strategic HCM Roadmap services. Sierra-Cedar conducts an annual survey of HCM technology and has gathered millions of data points over the last 15 years. The data provides our clients with key information about HCM technology such as, what systems are organizations looking at for the future, what is the average cost and duration of a deployment, the ratio of HR employees to total employees, and best of all, information on leading practices. You can click on this hotspot CedarCrestone HR Systems Survey to the main survey page for more information on the survey, how to participate in the 16th annual survey, and/or you can download copies of the current and past survey whitepapers.
