Hackensack Meridian Health – PeopleSoft Innovator Award Winner

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) was recently awarded a PeopleSoft Innovator Award at Oracle OpenWorld in recognition of the tremendous amount of work accomplished in a relatively short time. After the individual healthcare networks merged operations in 2016, the project team set about eliminating 25 HR/Payroll systems as it moved 33,000 team members at 13 hospitals and over 200 centers into one consolidated system. HMH deployed Elasticsearch, Fluid pages, and custom Fluid pages to make Employee Self Service more intuitive for the users. They also deployed two-factor authentication to make the system more secure. Read more

PeopleSoft Test Framework. Well worth the effort.

Testing PeopleSoft processes for PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) updates or major release upgrades is usually not high on a user’s list of likes. The entire process of developing a test plan is not exactly fun: assembling a team, creating and performing tests, fixing issues, re-testing, documenting, and finalizing the test process. Testing is a costly process; however, without effective testing, the “life-cycle” costs to any organization will be much greater. In fact, inadequate testing is a major reason why many projects fail. To help clients succeed with testing, Oracle provides a free tool: PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF). Read more

Oracle PeopleSoft Fluid is better than sliced bread. Really.

If you’ve made the move to Fluid, the rest of this blog will just make you smug. For those who haven’t moved to the latest PeopleSoft user interface, let me provide you with both practical reasons and financial reasons on why you’d want to update your PeopleSoft to a modern user interface (UI).

The #1 reason organizations change from PeopleSoft to another system is the UI. Thousands of organizations have self reported this fact through the Sierra-Cedar HR Systems Survey[1]. Read more

PeopleSoft Commitment – Indefinitely, That’s Definite!

Recently, I met with Marc Weintraub from Oracle to discuss some ideas that may not be crystal clear to PeopleSoft customers or the public at large. At the top of our list was, “What did Oracle mean when it said, ‘Oracle is fully committed to supporting and investing in its PeopleSoft solutions indefinitely’?”1 That’s a long time—“indefinitely.” Read more

Hosting PeopleSoft in the Cloud

There is some uncertainty about what it means to move PeopleSoft “to the Cloud.” The simplest description is running your PeopleSoft (PSoft) system outside of your facility—in someone else’s facility. There are many options available. There are options regarding what you are responsible for and what the vendor is responsible for (e.g., patching SW, security, where/what country you want the facility, among many others). I see PeopleSoft in the Cloud as really how ERP services were provided in the past and how ERP services can be provided now—moving from the physical data center you grew up with to a more effective environment in the Cloud. Managing PeopleSoft Security

Managing PeopleSoft security is an important component of managing your system. We find that system security is oftentimes an afterthought, especially during an implementation or an upgrade. This can result in security being perceived as an obstacle by users rather than a positive system module. Read more

Where do I stand with My Budget? Lessons from KCTCS

I have recently been working with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) on improvements to their budget reporting process. These improvements included the development and distribution of a weekly report for those responsible for the budget.

Utilizing Connected Query and BI Publisher, we have developed several reports to support budget users in managing their budgets. Many ad-hoc reports to manage the overall college budgets had already been developed for the business officers who use PeopleSoft on a regular basis. But what was really needed, was the ability to email reports to the non-PeopleSoft users who were in charge of the budgets. Read more
