Sierra-Cedar released a new service for general availability a few weeks ago—“PUM-as-a-Service” (PUM-aaS). This service provides a very cost-effective process for organizations that want to keep their PeopleSoft system current with the new features/functions in each image but have constraints (e.g., expertise, resources, time). Sierra-Cedar has very experienced PeopleSoft staff dedicated to advising clients on each image and then providing services to apply the update, adjust any customizations, and run PTF scripts. The idea is to offload this important set of tasks to specialists who’ve gained efficiencies through years of experience. Read more
Who is totally up to date on applying PUM (PeopleSoft Update Manager) images and who finds it easy to apply updates every quarter? I bet it’s a short list. The problem with keeping PeopleSoft updated is it’s a full-time job during part of the year, plus it can require some specialized skills.
The purpose of PUM is to provide customers the fastest updates to their PeopleSoft systems with new features, fixes, and regulations. This is a seriously good tool that has provided great benefits to many organizations. How can it be optimally deployed? Let’s start with the question, “What would you like to accomplish with your PeopleSoft system?” Is your objective to simply pay employees, keep the books, and pay taxes; or do you want to keep your system up to date and deploy new features that will help you better manage your business?

When you think about what this could mean for your business, you might just have a “light-bulb” moment. Read more
Testing PeopleSoft processes for PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) updates or major release upgrades is usually not high on a user’s list of likes. The entire process of developing a test plan is not exactly fun: assembling a team, creating and performing tests, fixing issues, re-testing, documenting, and finalizing the test process. To help clients succeed with testing, Oracle provides a free tool: PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF). Read more
PUM: for the uninitiated, this acronym might not create a great deal of excitement, but wait until you use it. PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) has been described as “the tool that breaks up a large upgrade into small, easy-to-apply updates.” One user describes PUM as “a search tool to find applicable patches.” Another says, “PUM simplifies maintenance”—and it really does!
